Treatment Facilities Committee
−
"BRIDGING THE GAP" VOLUNTEER ONLINE −
Area 44 Treatment
Facilities Committee needs AA’s with a year or more of sobriety as Temporary
Contacts in the Area Bridging The Gap Program.
As a Temporary
Contact you'll meet with a still-suffering alcoholic who is in or just
discharged from a treatment facility or outpatient program. Your commitment will
help the newcomer safely across the chasm which separates the facility's
controlled environment from AA's open door.
Temporary Contacts
may visit newcomers before they leave the facility. You may provide
conference-approved AA Literature and a local meeting list. These publications
are available from your District TFC representative.
If possible, you may
take the new M to meetings before his/her discharge, and most certainly after
that date, especially on his/her first day back in the community. You'll
introduce your new friend to as many AA's as possible, and see that he/she
acquires a list of phone numbers to call when the need arises. In all your
discussions, you will guide the newcomer toward a Home Group and more permanent
Sponsorship.
Whenever feasible,
Bridge-the-Gap Temporary Contacts will be matched with potential members by sex,
age grouping, and Zip Code. Our volunteer listings may be made available to
District and Area Treatment Facilities Committees. YOUR NEXT TWELFTH - STEP CALL
MAY COME FROM ANY OF THESE SOURCES.
